2015 Steel Drum Concert & Ice Cream Social

Come one, come all to the Hower House's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social, Sunday, July 12, 2015, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Bring the whole family for ice cream with all the toppings, old-fashioned lawn games, self-guided tours of the home and Carriage House, and the happy sounds of a University of Akron steel drum duo.

The Hower House, an 1871 Second Empire-Style Victorian Mansion at 60 Fir Hill, was built by industrialist John Henry and Susan Hower, on what was then the eastern edge of Akron. Three generations of Howers lived there, until long after the smoke of the downtown industries forced the other wealthy families to move "west of the smoke." The home displays their extensive collection of furnishings, decorative and fine art from their worldwide travels. The 28-room mansion, with its furnishings, was willed to the University of Akron in 1970, and is now available for tours, conferences, exhibits, receptions and more.

Event Details:

COST: The Old Fashion Ice Cream Social, a benefit for the conservation of the collections, costs $5 per person or just $10 per household.

Cost includes: self-guided tour of House and Carriage House, concert, games, and ice cream sundae.

WHERE: Hower House, 60 Fir Hill, The University of Akron.

PARKING: Free onsite parking behind the Carriage House or in nearby University lots (lots will be marked for Hower House parking).

OTHER INFO: You are welcome to bring along your lawn chair or blanket to sit on, some seating provided. Family friendly event.

Rain info: In case of rain, an alternate location will be announced. Call Hower House for details (330.972.6909).

INFO: 330-972-6909, howerhouse@uakron.edu or www.howerhouse.org.
