About the Event

The Ohio Village Muffins baseball and Leadership Portage County have joined to celebrate the Streetsboro Bicentennial for a fall game of baseball by the rules of 1860 on: Saturday, October 1, 2022 The event will take place at: Streetsboro City Park, 8970 Kirby Lane, Streetsboro, Ohio.

The Bicentennial team of Streetsboro will consist of 12-15 residence players to be chosen by Streetsboro Park & Rec. office. (Details on how to sign-up coming soon). The Ohio Muffins are composed of players ranging in age from high school up to ages in the sixties, a similar age range among the members of the Streetsboro Team is welcomed and encouraged.

The game will consist of nine innings (weather permitting), will begin at 2:00pm and will take place at Streetsboro City Park. A typical game played by 1860-era rules moves along at a brisk place and usually takes approximately two hours.

The Ohio Village Muffins will supply up to 15 period-appropriate shirts, ties, and hats to be worn by the Bicentennial team in the game, as well as wooden bats, period base balls, and bases. The Bicentennial team of Streetsboro are welcome to keep the caps, but they will return the shirts and ties after the game. All players should be at least 18 years old and have basic knowledge of the game of baseball and experience playing the game.

The Muffins will conduct an informative briefing approximately 30 minutes before the game to review the 1860-era rules and practices and will answer questions. The umpires will then officiate the game according to those rules and practices. As was the case in the era, sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct will be emphasized. During the course of the game, the umpire will provide comments for the spectators regarding the differences between 1860 – era baseball and the modern game as situations arise.

In keeping with the goal of creating a mid-19th-century appearance, the Streetsboro Park & Rec. Dept. will advise the Bicentennial Team players to wear—

  • Long Pants with a dark belt. Denim blue jeans are excellent and dark cotton pants are acceptable (Bicentennial Team players should not wear nylon pants, baseball/softball pants, or shorts)
  • Dark shoes with no metal spikes (rubber cleats are acceptable)
  • No jewelry, wristwatches, or sunglasses
  • No baseball gloves, batting gloves, sweat bands, or other modern equipment items
  • No iPods, ear buds, cell phones, or other electronic devices
