Portage County is home to many wonderful communities and exploring them can be educational, fun and memorable. As I mentioned in my previous Exploring Portage County piece, I am taking the opportunity this year to explore Portage County and share with you just some of the wonderful places to go to while visiting Streetsboro.
Just a short 15 minute drive from Streetsboro is the bustling city of Ravenna, located on State Route 59. During my recent visit there I had the opportunity to explore and enjoy all that this town has to offer. I was able to check out some of the beautiful artwork in Ravenna, including the murals, sculpture and hot air balloon alley. A stop at Sunshine Cupcakes gave me the opportunity to indulge in a delicious treat. They have a wide variety of cupcakes, but my favorite was the buckeye cupcake. I also stopped by Vance’s Carriage House Creamery, Birdie Shack, Ravenna 7 Movies, Midway Drive-In Theater, Studio Clay, the Portage County Historical Society, Windmill Lakes Golf Club, West Main St. Winery, and Your Toy Connection. Each place I stopped at offered something different from vintage toys, to a wine slushy, to the latest movies, the chance to make some pottery or enjoy a round of putt-putt. It was a lot of fun exploring the city and I know there is still so much more to see.
I also took the opportunity to check out more the wonderful Portage Parks including Dix Park & the Portage Hike & Bike Trail. Dix Park is amazing for that quiet stroll through the woods and the Portage Hike & Bike Trail offers a smooth flat trail that has multiple trailheads and parking locations. Another amazing place I visited was West Branch State Park. This beautiful park offers a campground, hiking trails, a marina, beach access, a dog park, and a disc golf course.
I really am enjoying having the opportunity to tour Portage County and I can't wait to keep exploring. I hope you enjoy checking Ravenna out the next time you visit Streetsboro.
